Our Acratech GP Ballhead is uniquely designed to function as a ballhead, a gimbal head, and a leveling base. It’s like getting 3 pieces of equipment all wrapped up in one beautiful and lightweight unit.
The stem and clamp have a mating pattern that prevents rotation when it is being used as a ballhead.
The pin in the bottom of the ball is what creates the hybrid gimbal action. This works with any lens (up to 400mm) with a lens collar and foot. It will have you shooting wildlife like a pro.
Remove the clamp from the stem and invert the GP, you are now ready to level and create a single row panorama. This eliminates the need to carry a separate leveling base in order to create accurate stitched panoramas, as you'll be able to pan parallel to the horizon even when using your tripod on rocky or uneven terrain.
GP Ballheads are offered with either a knob, or a locking lever clamp. Both clamps have a level and detent pin.
Don't forget a camera or lens plate, if you do not have them already.
If you're unsure of whether the GP will work for your needs, please take a look at our product comparison page for more info.

I bought the Acratech GP with Level Clamp about 3 weeks ago. I have been using it in doors so far. Just practicing with it on my tripod. Been very satisfied with it. I use it with a Feisol 3472LV tripod and have attached Nikon D750 with both a Nikon 28-300mm and Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8. It has performed great with no creep at all. It moves very smoothly. I have not yet tried out the gimbal head feature on it. The size and weight of the head is great.

I am immensely impressed with this ball head! It is an absolute joy to use I love the sleek look and the intelligence behind the design. I shoot on beaches quite often and the open ball design makes so much sense it is miles better than the competition. The only criticism I have to offer about this ballhead is that the main tightening of requires more force than I am used to in order to lock it down nice and snug. The panning function when you turn it upside down works excellent for leveling the ball head and doing panoramas. Another clamp is the only way to go its functions incredibly well and is so fast .... I absolutely love this ball head.

A well engineered ball head. Fairly light even though it has a good load carrying capacity. It has a nice feel to it and the tension knob provides nice smooth control of the camera/lens.
